Editing

I provide freelance editing and manuscript development services for short stories, novel excerpts of up to 20,000 words, screenplays and synopses or outlines.

There are two editing services available: feedback and an in-depth edit.

I am open to editing other types of material or providing different editing services, but please contact me using the general form.

Feedback

Who can order feedback?

Feedback is available to all short story and novel writers, screenwriters and all writers producing a synopsis or outline.

Who should order feedback?

This service is recommended for short story writers and novelists in the draft stages of producing a work and for screenwriters at any stage of the process.

What do you get?

Short story writers and novelists get in-text comments and emailed manuscript feedback. Screenwriters and writers of synopses or outlines receive emailed manuscript feedback.

The feedback will vary depending on the needs of your work, but might focus on structure, character, plot, story logic, originality, clarity, dialogue, point-of-view, general prose style and grammar.

What is the purpose of getting feedback?

Feedback will help you develop your work and make you aware of its strengths and weaknesses.

How much does it cost?

Prices start from AUD70.00 for up to 2,000 words (short stories and novel excerpts) or up to 20 pages (screenplays and synopses/outlines).

In-depth edit

Who can order an in-depth edit?

Short story and novel writers can order an in-depth edit. Screenwriters who wish to order an in-depth edit should contact me first.

Who should order an in-depth edit?

This service is appropriate for writers whose work is at an advanced stage—that is, for writers who believe they have completed (or are close to completing) a final draft of their work.

What do you get?

Writers receive line edits, extensive in-text comments and emailed manuscript feedback. An in-depth edit will get your story working on all levels.

In addition to feedback, a manuscript edit will ensure that every line of prose and dialogue is as strong as possible.

What is the purpose of an in-depth edit?

This edit will prepare your story or novel excerpt for submission to competitions, residency programs, publishers or agents.

How much does it cost?

Prices start from AUD90.00 for up to 2,000 words.

NOTE: If I feel that an in-depth edit is inappropriate for your work, I will let you know as soon as possible after I receive your manuscript. You will receive feedback instead.
